Semantical Considerations for Knowledge Base Updates

چکیده

Recent research has shown that under some circumstances, the conventional minimal change methods were inappropriate for updating knowledge bases with disjunctive eeects. In this paper we propose a new method for the knowledge base update based on a persistence principle , which provides conservative results for updating knowledge bases with implicit and disjunctive eeects. As it will be shown, our approach avoids the diiculty with the minimal change principle. To characterize properties of the persistence-based update method, we investigate the relationship between the minimal change update semantics and persistent update semantics in detail.

Updates with Disjunctive Information : Fromsyntactical

The possible models approach (PMA) is a classical minimal change semantics for knowledge base updates, which provides an exclusive interpretation for disjunctive information in updateis. It has been recognized that the exclusive interpretation for disjunction may be problematic under some circumstances. In this paper, we investigate inclusive interpretations for disjunctions in updates from bot...

A Semantical Notion of Relevance in Speciications of Database Updates and Its Computational Counterpart

Using the situation calculus as underlying formalism for specifying database updates as proposed by Raymond Reiter, a semantical notion of relevance of entries in tables to other entries is introduced. Also a semantical notion of relevant action is provided. Some properties of these semantical notions are investigated. In particular, they are compared with syntactical deenitions of relevance th...

Updating Logic Programs

It is well known that rule-based knowledge bases are usually realized by logic programs. An update has to be performed to the current knowledge base if some new information occurs. In many applications associated with dynamic domains, however, such new information may occur not only as a set of simple facts but also a set of rules. In this paper, we view knowledge bases as extended logic progra...

Abteilung Wissensbasierte Systeme Reasoning about Evolving Nonmonotonic Knowledge Bases

Recently, several approaches to updating knowledge bases modeled as extended logic programs have been introduced, ranging from basic methods to incorporate (sequences of) sets of rules into a logic program, to more elaborate methods which use an update policy for specifying how updates must be incorporated. In this paper, we introduce a framework for reasoning about evolving knowledge bases, wh...
